Dryer Vent Fires
Dryer fires often start due to unsafe clothes dryer venting. Dryer vent fires can start by dryer lint accumulating in the clothes dryer venting or around the drum. Installers sometimes use flexible metal foil or plastic venting. This dryer vent installation is not safe or recommended by clothes dryer manufacturers and creates an unacceptable risk of a dryer fire.

“...flexible dryer ducts made of foil or plastic are the most problematic because they can sag and let lint build up at low points. Ridges can also trap lint. Flexible or solid metal ducts are far safer because they don't sag, so lint is less likely to build up. In addition, if a fire does start, a metal duct is more likely to contain it.” - Consumer Reports

“We put an open flame to two kinds of aluminum hosing - corrugated and flat - and after more than a minute, neither one catches fire. Compare that to the plastic hosing, which flames in just 12 seconds. ...the solution is clear: get rid of plastic hosing.” - Dateline NBC
